Passive-aggressive students

Gone for the day. Left a review of vocabulary and concept assignment for basic math class–left notes on white board; left instructions on white board. Students still did not follow instructions, did not even write the definitions of the two and only two words and concept of this learning sheet. Students did not even bother to read, think, practice and then turn in. Instead rushed through, with complete and total disregard to anyone but their own selfish desire to play video games. [All students? Of course not.]

This wasn’t even new material but a review and solidification, a spiraling concept if you will to give students 28 exposures in 28 different days; to give them practice time, to give them the opportunity for success. One young man even wrote profanity that seems to be his newest modus operandi. Of course this will be referred to principal. Will anything be done? Hasn’t been done thus far when his mouth is so foul that a sailor would blush.

Life in this classroom has become a trapdoor with the “para-professional” nipping at my heels and students following the same suit. Enough. Tomorrow the law doesn’t change, it just will be enforced with the severity of a smile and firm, thank  you for turning in your work; too bad you didn’t bother to read and follow instructions. No opportunity to revise. Will see how students perform on next learning opportunity.
